“Nuragic civilisation and Artificial Intelligence: from stones to neural networks” is the title of the international conference organised by the Association “Sardinia towards Unesco”, scheduled for 29 November. The initiative will see the participation of experts from all over the world, who will be present at ‘Sa Manifattura’ in Cagliari for the event on the topic of AI. An event that aims, among other things, to offer new insights and perspectives that will also be useful for the definition of a new sustainable development model for Sardinia.
Presenting and moderating the entire day’s work (which will be streamed live on the Association’s Facebook page), after the institutional greetings of the Association promoting the event, “Sardinia towards UNESCO”, the representatives of the Municipality of Cagliari, the Region of Sardinia and the Fondazione di Sardegna, partners of the Association, and the University of Cagliari and Sassari, will be Barbara Carfagna, journalist, author and RAI presenter.
For the first time, the project EIA, Ecosystems Technological Innovation of “Sardinia towards UNESCO” will be presented, introduced and analysed on the occasion by Ivan Blečić and Massimo Deriu.
The topic and the state of the art will be discussed in the speech entitled “IA, the future is now” by Alberto Mattiello, business futurist, technological innovation expert, author, entrepreneur and keynote speaker.
And always of high technology and innovation will speak David Gallo, CEO & Managing Director of ONE-O-ONE Games and of 101%, currently involved in gaming projects such as Aftermath (PS4 – XBox – PC game) – The Fading of Nicole Wilson (PS4 – XBox – PC game – Nintendo Switch) and Dante (PS4 – XBox – PC game – Nintendo Switch). This will be followed, at the close of the morning’s proceedings, by the speech of Salvatore Piazza, Executive Account Manager of Google Cloud for the Local Public Sector market.
The afternoon session will open with the greetings of two of the Association’s partners, who with “Sardinia towards Unesco” share the path initiated for the Unesco recognition of the Sardinian nuragic heritage, the Foundation of Barumini and the Foundation of Mont’ è Prama.
Getting to the heart of the afternoon’s proceedings will be Stefano Quintarelli, founder Rialto Venture Capital and member of the High Level Expert Group of the Commission on Artificial Intelligence of the European Commission, with the speech ‘Submarines don’t swim.
Practical and applied cases, with the Nuragic civilisation at the centre of the thematic windows to follow. It will start with an analysis by Maurizio Forte, Professor of Classical Studies, History of Art and Visual Arts at Duke University and Italian Academy Fellow, Fall 2024: “Back to the future, how Artificial Intelligence revolutionises the perception of the past” is the title of his talk. Mark Altaweel, Professor of Near Eastern Archaeology and Archaeological Data Science at University College London, will speak on “Discriminative and Generative Artificial Intelligence for Cultural Heritage: Applications and Challenges”.
And again, Lucio Pascarelli, a former UN executive with over 40 years of experience in the ICT sector and an expert in AI will address the topic of “The importance of data: chatbots and other AIs”. “Digital Twins and the Nuragic Civilisation: between Archaeology, History and Popular Traditions” is instead the title of the speech by Franco Niccolucci, Scientific Responsible Vast Lab – PIN University of Florence.
The event will be closed by Francesco Pigliaru, economist at the University of Cagliari and CREnOS with a speech entitled “AI: co-intelligence. Some temporary conclusions”.”
