“The monument stands in a harsh and wild valley in the countryside of Orune, still today the realm of the local shepherds. Hidden for centuries by a landslide that preserved it intact until our days, it was discovered only in 1953 by the landowners during water channeling works. The sacred spring, dated to the end of the 2nd millennium BC and frequented until the Iron Age, is unique in its kind in Sardinia. Leaning against a steep wall of schist rock (the Nuragic people captured and channeled the spring water that still feeds the spring today), it features an original double-pitched roof, with a rectangular vestibule covered by two arches…” The excerpt is taken from “Sardegna Nuragica” by Giovanni Lilliu (ed. Il Maestrale – 2006).
