The Longu Nuraghe of Tertenia

The ‘Longu’ of Tertenia is one of the many Sardinian nuraghi that probably assumed this name due to its height or general size. In the case of the monument in question, it is presumable that the perception of its considerable majesty is also due to its dominant location in the territory.

On the website of the Ministry of Culture – Idese, we read that:

‘The Longu nuraghe is located in the hamlet of Marina di Tertenìa, locality Su Concali. From the nuraghe, as with the Aleri (visible from the Longu), one can admire the beautiful coastal panorama.

It is a complex nuraghe with a peculiar layout. The main tower is by far the best preserved, the ground floor chamber still has its tholos roof intact. In addition to the bastion, the Nuragics also built several terraces. Large granite boulders were used to build the structure.

Take the road from Tertenia through the Marina di Tertenia. Turn right at the sign indicating Località Su Concali and Nuraghe Longu. Continue to Via Nuragi Longu, which you can also drive along for a stretch. Then leave the car in the dirt clearing and take the footpath on the right which, threading its way through the Mediterranean scrub, leads to the nuraghe.

The photos of the Longu Nuraghe of Tertenia are by Gianni Sirigu, Bibi Pinna and Francesca Cossu. The panoramas taken from the summit of the same nuraghe are by Marco Cocco.
