The municipality of Guspini preserves in its territory significant prehistoric remains dating back to the pre-Nuragic and Nuragic periods.
Among the latter, the Nuragic fortress of Saurecci and the Sa Mela or Melas or Fumiu nuraghe are of particular importance.
The Saurecci fortress was built in a strategic position: from the top of the hill on which it was erected, it is possible to see the Campidano plain, the Linas mountain range and several nuraghi in the territory of Pabillonis.
Of considerable size (covering an area of almost 4000 square metres), it is composed of four towers connected by a rhomboid-shaped wall.
The Melas, as stated on a page on the Ministry of Culture website, is
‘a polylobate nuraghe with a double entrance, which stands out on the horizon thanks to its position on top of a low hill and the remarkable height of the central structure, preserved up to the second floor…’.
Near these two monuments there is also a sacred well, called ‘Sa Mitza de Nieddinu’.
The photos of the Saurecci fortress are by Andrea Mura-Nuragando Sardegna. Those of the Melas nuraghe are by Gianni Sirigu and Marco Cocco. The pictures of the sacred well Sa Mitza de Nieddinu are by Sergio Melis.
