Corongiu Maria, a nuraghe “with a view”

The “Corongiu Maria”, in the territory of Nurri, is a protonuraghe located in a dominant position on the edges of Pranu and Muru, the basaltic lava flow in the territory of Nurri, east of the course of the Flumendosa. The monument dominates the mountains of Santa Vittoria up to Gennargentu and, below, the canyon where the approximately 17 kilometers of the artificial lake of Medio Flumendosa have been created. The nuraghe a corridoio combines its austere nakedness with the majesty of the landscape that can be admired from there at 360 degrees. The visitor in search of tholos will likely be disappointed, as the small corridors, covered by flat bands, have mostly collapsed, making access rather risky.

Along the crown and close to the nuraghe itself, there runs for kilometers what the locals call the ancient road that led from the Barbagia of Seulo to the nuraghe Arrubiu, a probable route of ancient transhumance. A beautiful and recommended excursion even for sporty families. From the nuraghe, one can see countless other nuraghi from a later period – some of which are completely submerged by debris (clearing of pastures) and by moddizzi plants – such as what remains of the nuraghi Pizzu Tuvuru 1 and 2, located lower down, almost aligned with ours and near the hotel Istellas.
