27a: The nuraghe Armungia rises on the east-northeast edge of the homonymous village, among the mountainous reliefs of Gerrei, in a dominant position over the Flumendosa valley. The building is a single-tower structure with a base diameter of about 13 meters and a maximum remaining height of 10.5 meters. The external masonry, of which 21 courses of limestone schist blocks are preserved, becomes more precise as the wall rises upwards, with stones decreasing in size from the bottom to the top. The entrance wall to the monument, oriented southeast, shows a noticeable restoration aimed at reintegrating the masonry structures. From the corridor, access is granted to the large tholos chamber, which has a base diameter of 5.40 meters and reaches a height of 8.25 meters, with a beautiful arrangement of 31 horizontal courses of primarily sub-square cut stones.
At 3.50 meters above the floor of the chamber, in the section of wall between the corridor and the cell to the southwest, the entrance to the staircase carved inside the masonry that led to the terrace opens. (Sardegna Cultura)
The Serra Madau, of Villasalto, is a singular monument, composed of two overlapping towers, standing solitary on a very high and impressive cliff dominating the large valley of the Rio “S’Acqua Callenti,” just near the confluence with the Flumendosa valley.
The photos of the nuraghe Armungia are by Giovanni Sotgiu, Andrea Mura-Nuragando Sardegna, and Bibi Pinna. Those of the nuraghe Serra Madau of Villasalto are by Bibi Pinna, Nicoletta Muscas, and Marina Olla.
