16a : Nuragic village of Muru Mannu, Nuraghe Cannevadosu, G.Marongiu Museum – Cabras

16a: The Museo Civico Giovanni Marongiu in Cabras, opened in 1977, houses the rich heritage of the Sinis peninsula and in particular many of the artefacts (statues, betili, nuraghe models…) found on the Monte ‘e Prama site.

The Muru Mannu hill, in the area of the Tharros (Cabras) archaeological complex, was home to a Nuraghic village, of which the remains of some of the huts are still visible today. The tophet, a necropolis typical of the Phoenician-Punic period, was later built on these ruins.

The Nuraghe Cannevadosu de Cabras is located around 800 m south-west of the Monte ‘e Prama site and around 8 km west of Cabras. It is a “tancato” Nuraghe: in front of the main tower there is a regular body of wall surrounding a smaller tower and a courtyard between the two towers.

The photos of some of the statues and other objects found at Monte ‘e Prama are by Nicola Castangia and the Museo Giovanni Marongiu in Cabras. The photos of the archaeological complex at Tharros are by Cinzia Olias; those of the Muru Mannu site, also at Tharros, are by Valentino Selis, while the images of the Cannevadosu nuraghe (Cabras) are by Marco Cocco and Francesco Cubeddu (aerial photo).
