Tomb of giants Su Niu ‘e su Crobu in Sant’Antioco

The tomb of giants Su Niu ‘e su Crobu or Sa Corona ‘e Crabi, in the territory of Sant’Antioco, “built with boulders of volcanic rock (trachyte), presents an intact structure, with an elongated rectangular chamber. The tomb body measures 10.20 m x 1.25/0.80 m, while the exedra measures 14.50 m by 2.70 m arrowhead.

The ashlars, placed with a knife at the base, are large, while the upper part contains smaller stones. The tomb, during excavations at the beginning of the last century conducted by Taramelli, had a denticulated lintel, which has now disappeared. The entrance must have been surmounted by a ‘denticulated stele’, i.e. a stone carved with deep notches, originally placed above the lintel, a fragment of which was found among the collapse material. The monument appears to have been built during the Middle Bronze Age II, between the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 13th century B.C.’.
