The archaeological site of Matzanni in Vallermosa, located along the border between the municipalities of Iglesias and Vallermosa, includes three well temples and a small village. The complex presumably dates back to a period between 1300 and 730 B.C.
The first monument features a vestibule, a partially collapsed stone staircase that descends towards the well located inside the chamber, vaulted in “tholos” style.
The second, located about 50 meters from the first, also consists of a vestibule, a staircase, and a “tholos” chamber. The staircase and vestibule are buried, while the “tholos” is missing its collapsed upper part.
The third monument, of which the vestibule and staircase are currently visible, is approximately 300 meters away from the first two.
Among the various objects found in this area, particular mention should be made of the bronze statue affectionately called “Barbetta” (The image is taken from the website of the archaeological museum of Cagliari where the artifact is exhibited).
