The tombs of giants Is Lapideddas in Gonnosnò

In the area of Is Lapideddas, to the west of the village of Gonnosnò, four tombs of the giants have been identified, located a short distance from each other and in different states of preservation. They are built with blocks of local limestone and measure little more than 10 metres in length, except for one, which is very small, built with medium and minute stones bound by mud mortar.

Due to unauthorised excavations, it has not been possible to recover an intact stratigraphic context. However, from the few data that could still be found, it was possible to recognise a sequence datable between the Late Middle Bronze and Recent Bronze Ages. In the area of the exedra of one of the tombs, two well hearths were documented, which yielded materials that can be classified as belonging to the Monte Claro culture; this data invites us to hypothesise a frequentation of the site prior to the burial.
