The thousand-year-old nuragic tholoi

Yesterday, Tuesday 10 December, the conference cycle of the ‘Sardinia towards Unesco’ Association on the cultural and economic valorisation of the Nuragic civilisation came to a close with the meeting ‘Formal beauty and science of building in the millenary Nuragic tholoi‘. On the final day, the topic was addressed by Giovanni Alvito, Director of the Terravista company, and Emanuele Reccia, Professor of Building Science (Unica), introduced and guided by Edoardo Balzarini, a member of the Association.

The (re)discovery of the Nuragic civilisation, the path towards achieving Unesco recognition, the popularisation initiatives undertaken by the Association so far, Nuragic monumentality and construction techniques, were the points touched upon by Balzarini in his introduction before giving the floor to the two experts.

Starting with a comparison of an image of the past and present of the Pontes nuraghe (Dualchi), Alvito took the audience on a virtual tour of some of the monuments, with a focus on the study techniques used (reconstruction and analysis) that enabled the audience to better understand the history and architecture of the nuraghi. On the other hand, Professor Reccia, investigating the structural behaviour of nuragic architecture, went into the specifics of the constructive typological elements of nuraghi, helping the people in the audience to improve their knowledge of Sardinia’s monumental heritage.

Our Association’s lecture series will see a spring edition already being planned.
