The Succoronis nuraghe in Macomer

The Succoronis Nuraghe is built on an outcrop of trachyte (volcanic rock) along the road from Macomer to Sindia. It is a beautiful single tower that preserves the dome. The chamber is accessed through a corridor with a staircase and niche, and inside there are three large niches, almost like small rooms.

The tower has a diameter of almost 15 m and is built, in the lower rows, with large blocks, while in the upper part it has smaller, carefully finished boulders.
A number of light sockets, triangular or quadrangular, arranged almost spirally, are visible on the outer masonry.

The entrance, truncated-ogival, faces south-east and is surmounted by a sturdy two-metre long lintel. Above it is a small window that lets in air and light. Beyond the entrance, a clockwise spiral staircase opens to the left, leading to the upper floor. A short distance from the nuraghe is a domus de janas.
