The Su Picante tomb of giants in Siniscola

The Tomb of the Giants of Su Picante is located at Jorghi Ufrattu, a few kilometres from Siniscola. It falls into the category of dolmen-type tombs of the giants, particularly present in central-northern Sardinia, characterised by an entrance that gives access to the rectangular chamber.

The chamber is made of slabs driven into the ground, alternating with large blocks, and is covered by large slabs. The exedra is still partially intact; the mound that covers the chamber is monumental and disproportionate to it, characterised by piles of stones and earth, contained by a small wall.

The structure of the tomb is not perfectly symmetrical, due to the conformation of the ground on which it stands. The base rock has been carved to create channels for rainwater to run off. There is no trace of the centred stele, typical of such structures.
No grave goods or remains of inhumans emerged from the excavation, probably not preserved due to the acidity of the granite soil.

The site can be reached from the municipality of Siniscola via the SS 125 Orientale Sarda for 14 km. Turn right towards SP 72 (towards Irgoli, Galtellì, Onifai) and proceed for about 4 km; turn left and proceed for about 1 km.
