The Santa Barbara Nuraghe in Macomer

The building, one of the best known on the island, is of a complex type, consisting of a central tower and a four-lobed bastion with an open courtyard. It was defended by an antemurale, surveyed by General Della Marmora, which is currently barely legible on the ground floor.
The bastion (8.80 m high) includes four towers connected by curtain walls, with a concave-convex profile, built with freshly hewn basalt blocks arranged in horizontal courses. The bastion is entered through a quadrangular entrance facing SE that leads into a short trapezoidal corridor connecting to the semi-elliptical courtyard. On the walls of the latter are the entrances to the central tower and the front secondary towers.
