The Filigosa site and the Ruggiu nuraghe in Macomer

The ‘Ruggiu’ of Macomer is a single tower, 13 metres in diameter ‘built with medium to large blocks arranged in regular rows. The nuraghe is not in a good state of preservation. The entrance to the south-east, which has collapsed, leads into a corridor that in the left wall shows access to the staircase (also collapsed). The chamber is circular in plan and is preserved to a maximum height of 9 m’. (from http://www.suscruxoxu.it/)

The nuraghe is located in the locality of ‘Filigosa’ a short distance from four domus de Janas. This burial complex, located a short distance from the town of Macomer, ‘is closely linked to that of Abealzu, in the territory of Osilo (in the Sassarese area). Although they are a good 60 kilometres apart, the two sites, in Macomer and Osilo, have identical architectural peculiarities, types of burials and artefacts: the two necropolises give their name to an important cultural facies of the Sardinian Eneolithic, the Abealzu-Filigosa culture – also known only as Filigosa culture – that developed between 2700 and 2400 B.C.’.
