A macro candidacy
The Association has entrusted the scientific part of the UNESCO dossier to a committee composed of the most authoritative academics and scholars in the field of Nuragic history and civilization. This Committee has identified 32 Nuragic sites that can well represent the thousands of prehistoric monuments present in Sardinia. Su Nuraxi-Casa Zapata in Barumini and Mont’e Prama, as well as other nuraghes, Nuragic villages, sacred wells, sanctuaries, and giants’ tombs that still uniquely characterize the landscape of Sardinia today, testifying to the historical roots of our civilization.
377 municipalities of Sardinia involved
The 32 sites of the instance collectively represent the ‘serial site’ proposed for UNESCO nomination, but above all, they constitute the nodes of a network that involves all 377 municipalities of Sardinia, forming a complex and widespread system that covers the entire island. A unique narrative that leads to the concept of “Sardinia, Island of Nuraghi” and which, while emphasizing the different local variations and specificities, can be presented externally as a ‘unified image’ of our land.
