Codrongianos and its Nieddu nuraghe

The town of Codrongianos ‘owes much of its fame to the scenic basilica of the Holy Trinity of Saccargia. Codrongianos stands on the hills of Logudoro, at an altitude of three hundred metres, populated by around 1,300 inhabitants. The remains of around 60 nuraghi bear witness to the fact that the territory was already intensely populated in the 2nd millennium B.C., in the Bronze Age. The Nieddu nuraghe is the best preserved: a single tower, eleven metres high, with a tholos (false dome) roof, set on a small rise and built with dark basalt blocks (nieddu) that, together with yellow lichens, characterise its colour.
