Protection, Enhancement, and Promotion of Nuragic Heritage

The La Sardegna Verso L’Unesco Association was founded in September 2020 with the aim of giving operational substance to the popular movement that sees the monuments of the ancient Nuragic civilization as the key to sustainable and lasting economic development for Sardinia. In the same year, we established the Scientific Committee and submitted the application to the Italian National Commission for UNESCO to include the Nuraghi on the Tentative List, with the ultimate goal of recognizing them as World Heritage.

The Nuragic heritage as a driver of economic development.

Our vision for enhancing Sardinia’s historical, natural, and archaeological heritage involves restoring sites and telling the story of the deep-rooted identity of this island in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. For us at the Sardegna verso l’UNESCO Association, this can become the true wealth of our island, offering new opportunities for economic and tourism development. We firmly believe that through our millennia-old history, as both an identity marker and an extraordinary social bond, we can grow and improve. By valuing the past, we believe that Sardinia’s future can be rewritten.

Awareness

To give the Nuragic civilization a leading role in the media.

Sharing

To make the nuragic monuments known all over the world.

Protection

To preserve the treasures of our past and open new doors.

Growth

To promote the economic development of a land rich in potential.

Yesterday’s treasures, tomorrow’s opportunities

The Monuments of the Nuragic Civilization boast a potential in the Mediterranean comparable only to Pharaonic Egypt. While some sites, like Barumini, have been well promoted, this heritage has yet to receive a systematic and unified approach.

Why we pursue UNESCO recognition

The UNESCO recognition of the Sardinian nuragic monuments.

We have embarked on a journey that we hope will lead to UNESCO recognition of the Sardinian Nuragic civilization and its monuments as World Heritage, with the goals of enhancing Nuragic heritage and driving economic growth. We are pursuing an ambitious project that represents a significant opportunity for Sardinia

Active on all fronts

As an association, we are involved in many different cultural projects, such as exhibitions across Sardinia, and educational initiatives like lessons and junior masterclasses on the Nuragic civilization in schools. We’ve also launched various initiatives to share knowledge of Nuraghi and other ancient Sardinian monuments beyond the island, while enhancing awareness among Sardinians about their importance.

How we work and with whom

We can rely on financial resources from supporters and sympathizers, as well as from institutions that have chosen to endorse our project, viewing it as not only ambitious but also forward-thinking. It is no coincidence that we have garnered support from the economic, sporting, cultural, academic, political, and religious sectors, as well as from the broader Sardinian civil society in all its diverse forms. Encouragements reach us daily from across Italy and from Sardinian communities abroad.

An always open dialogue

We are therefore moving on both the communicative and institutional levels to give maximum visibility and strength to the initiative. We have taken action on the administrative, regional, national, and European levels to obtain every useful support for the affirmation of what we consider the most extraordinary development project for the island in the coming three years. We are present and close to every Municipality in Sardinia and, thanks to the desire to achieve the full enhancement of the sites spread throughout the entire regional territory, we are ready to increase the value and prestige of our communities and their (and our) greatest treasure, the Nuragic heritage.
