93 and 93a: Nuragic settlement of Bruncu Suergiu and nuraghe Biriu – Genoni

93 and 93a: The Nuragic settlement of Bruncu Suergiu is located in the Giara Park, in the territory of Genoni. Hidden by vegetation, it is quite difficult to reach. Traces of ancient roads, a large settlement with production facilities, and fortification structures characterize the site. In addition to the enormous amount of material, a wide terrace overlooks the Campidano, offering a breathtaking view. Only the panorama rewards the long and difficult walk. The archaeological area, under protection, is about 11 hectares.

The Nuraghe Biriu, or Dom’e Biriu, is located about 1.5 km north of Genoni. Largely in ruins, one can read a tower in subquadrate masonry, with rows at horizontal levels and almost squared blocks.

The photos of the Nuragic settlement of Bruncu Suergiu are by Antonello Gregorini, Franco Vacca, and Beatrice Auguadro. Those of Nuraghe Biriu are by Gianni Sirigu, Bibi Pinna, and Marco Cocco.
