24a: Nuragic structure of Saurecci and Nuraghe Sa Mela or Melas – Guspini

24a: The nuragic structure of “Saurecci”, in Guspini,It is about 2 km in a straight line from the nearby nuraghe Melas and about 7 km from the inhabited center along the S.S. 126 that connects Guspini to San Nicolò d’Arcidano between the locality Tupa Crebu and the locality Corti Arrubia. The area is rich in prehistoric sites related to the pre-nuragic and nuragic periods: the nuraghe Uraddili, the menhir Genna Prunas and the Sacred Well Sa Mitza de Nieddinu, the Domus de janas of Bruncu Maddeus and the nuraghe Brunk’e s’Orku.

The fortress was built in a strategic position: from the top of the hill on which it was erected, it is indeed possible to see the plain of Campidano, the mountain range of Linas, and some nuraghi in the territory of Pabillonis. Of considerable size (it covers an area of almost 4000 square meters), it is composed of four towers connected by a rhomboidal wall.

The nuraghe Sa Mela or Melas, also in the territory of Guspini, was indicated by Vittorio Angius with the name of Fumìu: “It is such a design, of which one cannot give an idea without having outlined it.” Continuing, he asserts that there are more nuraghi that make it up: “The norace Fumiu… presents some particularities. Above the open door facing the sirocco-eastern wind, there is a gap, and not far from this, there is a second door opened to the sirocco and 2 meters high, which, however, being high above the ground, seems like a window: on one side there is an opening in the thickness of the wall to go to the upper floors or to the terrace.”

The photos of the nuragic structure of Saurecci, in Guspini, are by Marco Cocco and Andrea Mura-Nuragando. Those of the nuraghe Sa Mela or Melas, also in Guspini, are by Lorenzo Muntoni.
