7a: Giant tombs of Appiu and Laccaneddu – Villanova Monteleone

7a: The tomb of giants of Appiu, in the territory of Villanova Monteleone, belongs to the context of the village and the homonymous nuraghe. Never thoroughly investigated, it seems to belong to the type of Cyclopean tombs of giants, although it is in an area where those with arched stele are prevalent. The tomb of giants of Laccaneddu is an interesting monument, also located in the territory of Villanova Monteleone with a south-west orientation. Part of its apse is still visible, while unfortunately there is no trace of the stele. The well-preserved corridor, made with well-squared trachytic stone blocks, has a length of 7.10 m and a width of 2.80 m. Two slabs arranged in a flat band remain of the covering, while to the left of the monument there is an arrangement of boulders covered by a stone slab, which together could be identified as a dolmen. The photos of the tomb of giants of Appiu, in Villanova Monteleone, are by G.F. Columbu. Those of the tomb of giants of Laccaneddu, also in the territory of Villanova Monteleone, are by Giovanni Sotgiu and Nicola Castangia.
