88a.2 and 88b.2: Nuraghe Coa ‘e Serra and petroglyph near Grutta is Janas – Baunei

88a.2 and 88b.2: The nuraghe Coa ‘e Serra, located in the territory of Baunei, consists of a central core referable to the type of the so-called “corridor nuraghi,” which are older and structurally different from the “tholos” types (as the roof is not a false dome but flat-beamed), in which two rooms are identified. Of these, one is circular in shape, with a diameter of about 7 meters, while the other is oval, with a diameter of about 8 meters, connected to each other by a “flat-beamed covered” corridor. The petroglyph, unique in its kind, is located in front of the so-called “Grutta is Janas,” which overlooks the upper part of the village of Baunei. It consists of a depiction made up of a total of 18 shallow channels that branch out from a main basin a few centimeters deep, connecting to various terminal cups arranged without apparent criteria.

The photos of the nuraghe Coa ‘e Serra are by Andrea Mura-Nuragando Sardegna, Maurizio Cossu, and Vittorio Pirozzi. Those of the petroglyph in front of “Sa Grutta is Janas” are by Bibi Pinna, Giovanni Sotgiu, and Nuraviganne.
